Ray Jassin is President and Director of Library Services of Law Library Management, Incorporated. He began his career in law libraries as a clerk in the library of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in 1964. From there, he gained administrative and reference skills as a library assistant for the library of Cahill, Gordon, & Reindel and working as a paralegal at Queens Legal Services, Corp. He broadened his knowledge base during 3 1/2 years at Grey Advertising as Chief Librarian. He then spent 5 years at the Reference Desk of the library of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York where he gained in depth knowledge of legal resources under the tutelage of one of the top legal reference librarians, Anthony P. Grech. The Association afforded Ray with the exposure needed to begin his own entrepreneurial venture as well, starting Law Library Management, Incorporated. Seeing an underserved need, namely, firms that didn't need the standard service model, Ray set out to develop other ways to offer professional library services to law firms and corporate legal departments. He took Law Library Management, Incorporated from server housed software applications, to web based library management software, as an Intuit QuickBase Developer. Ray holds membership in the American Association of Law Libraries, Special Libraries Association and Association of Independent Information Professionals (founding member/former member). Since 1982 Ray has been the President and Director of Library services for all client libraries and is responsible for the management of all personnel and work product of the company.

ABOUT US

Law Library Management, Incorporated was established in 1982 by Ray Jassin to fill the need for alternative professional law library services to law firms and corporate legal departments. Our mission is to provide the highest level of service on a flexible and efficient basis without sacrificing quality. Our staff consists of professional law librarians, assistant librarians, and library assistants who effectively handle every aspect of your law library needs.

OUTSOURCING

We develop a service model suited to your needs. We can either totally or partially outsource your library. We work well with the firm's management team to develop and supervise a total library staff. We also supplement existing library staffs and work with head librarians to create a strong support system. Outsourcing services include staffing, custom automation, research services, and daily operation.

RESEARCH

Our research staff is lead by Steven M. Cohen, author of Librarystuff.net. Steven supervises our research services to ensure excellence, thoroughness, efficiency, timeliness and confidentiality. In addition to research support, our staff will provide training in research skills and techniques both in seminar format or individually. Our staff meets regularly with providers of electronic resources to ensure the relevance and cost effectiveness of the contracts entered into by the firms we serve. Research services include negotiating contracts with providers of electronic and print resources, LexisNexis and Westlaw research on demand, document retrieval and interlibrary loans as well as training.

CONSULTING

Our consulting services are designed to address long term needs or one-time projects. We help firms analyze the relevance of their collections, audit their collections for cost effectiveness and content relevance. We negotiate contracts with publishers and implement training sessions to maximize the use of resources. We analyze the efficiency of library automation systems and recommend alternatives when appropriate. We assist firms in reorganizing their libraries and planning moves. Consulting services include conducting audits, developing systems, planning moves and reorganizations, rebalancing collections and contract negotiations.

AUTOMATION

We work with all library software vendors to support the smooth operation of the library and look for the most appropriate software for the needs of the firm and/or legal department. In addition, we are developers of QuickBase, an Intuit software application, which we have customized and designed for the specific needs of our clients. We developed QuickBase to address the need for an alternative technological infrastructure to manage law libraries that is priced well below other software and affords easy customization.
